WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?
Mental Health First Aid is a training course designed to give members of the public the skills to help someone who is experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy, decreases stigmatizing attitudes, and helps individuals identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness.
MHFA is an interactive workshop that teaches participants to recognize the signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis and how to provide initial help and guide the person to appropriate professional resources.
The course addresses four of the most common and most stigmatized mental health disorders and includes signs/symptoms, risk factors, and crisis first aid. (MHCC, 2022)

VIRTUAL TRAINING
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health crisis. The Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that one in every five Canadians experiences a mental health problem within a given year. While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental health or substance use problems. This lack of understanding leads to fear and negative attitudes towards individuals living with these problems. It prevents people from seeking help for themselves and from providing appropriate support to people around them. (MHCC, 2022)
